Talking with Ugly Sweater Club designer Anzhelika
Ugly Sweater Club is a knitwear brand based in Dubai, creating playful collections under the theme of "beauty in imperfection."
To coincide with this installation, the Ugly Sweater Club team visited Japan. We bring you an interview with designer Anzhelika, along with photos from the reception party held on the first day, November 22nd (Saturday).
fmn: This is your first installation in a store like this. What are your impressions of Forget-me-nots?
Anzhelika: I think the brand selection is truly wonderful. TOGA is one of my favorite brands, and I also really like the Japanese brand PERVERZE. I was happy to see those two brands here, and I'm delighted that Ugly Sweater Club is carried in the same space as these brands.
fmn: Tell us about this installation.
Anzhelika: This installation is a slightly modified and updated version of the previous installation we did in the showroom. On the bed, we have pillowcases we designed, which are printed with photos taken by a photographer friend during the showroom period. The same photos are also printed on textile fabrics and carpets.
I think these elements combine to create a room-like atmosphere.
fmn: What is the theme of the installation and the message you want to convey?
Anzhelika: I get a lot of inspiration from the way teenagers dress. Their style is very intuitive, and precisely because they aren't bound by strict fashion rules yet, it's very free and wonderful. I wanted to recreate a space with that kind of teenage vibe.
I have a much younger sister, a 13-year age difference. She's 20 now, but it was so much fun to see her when she was a teenager, and I got a lot of inspiration from that.
