YOU & fmn vol.5
feat.MICO
“YOU & fmn” is a series introducing independent and active women who are connected with fmn.
For our fifth guest, we welcomed MICO, the designer and director of the accessory brand "33 club."
A special interview will be delivered, delving into the background of her creative process, where she imbues each item with a special message, and the story of her brand, commemorating the launch of 33club's POPUP STORE, which will be held at Forget-me-nots Fukuoka and Nagoya stores from July 4th (Sat) to July 12th (Sun).

What first led you to discover fmn?
A friend of mine really likes this store. I saw her visiting often, and I liked her fashion, so I became curious and found out about it.
What kind of shop do you perceive fmn to be?
The consistent image I get is of a cool, independent woman with her own strong convictions. The friend I just mentioned is also a hard-working woman who values that kind of mindset, so that image, combined with hers, gives me that impression.
You put together a styling using fmn items this time. Could you tell us about the key points of your styling?
There were so many cute clothes that I thought I might get overwhelmed, so I started by picking items that I honestly thought were cute, based on my first impression. I originally like layering. I layered various materials on top of items that already had complex textures.
I chose the bottom part because I thought the heavily layered ruffles would look unique and interesting, and the Capri pants were recommended to me. I don't usually combine patterns with patterns in my everyday clothes, but since it was a special occasion, I wanted to create an outfit that felt like a collaboration. It's fresh and interesting.

Are there any brands you are currently interested in?
Today I discovered a brand called CONSTANÇA ENTRUDO and thought it was very cute. I also saw OPEN YY when I went to Korea the other day, and I'm quite interested in its elegance, cuteness, and a bit of unique quirkiness.
Could you tell us what inspired you to start your brand?
I had been involved in music activities for about 10 years, and when I was 20, I had the opportunity to be the vocalist of a band, which is where I began my expressive activities. Before that, throughout my student days, I was often told that I liked unusual things and thought differently from others, so I didn't have many friends. I didn't have friends I could talk to openly.
However, after starting band activities, I began to express my passions and thoughts, and for the first time, I made friends with whom I could truly connect from the heart. I also realized that some people found my perceived "quirkiness" interesting or intriguing. Knowing the charm of expressing what I love and connecting with others through it, I wanted to fully dedicate myself to a multi-faceted expression that allows everyone to showcase their individuality and connect. That's how 33club was born.
Could you tell us about the meaning behind the brand name "33club"?
In a world where numbers hold meaning, the number “33” is considered a number of love and creation, and I strongly believe that creativity is about having love and connecting things. I think that thoughts and creation have the power to connect impossible things, and to make us realize that things we once rejected as completely different are not so different after all. I believe it has that connecting nature. While we live in an era where individual power is strengthening, I hope we can connect where possible, and "connect" is also a major theme of the brand, which is why I chose this number.
Our goal is to create connections across age, gender, and language barriers, and I also find it interesting that numbers use the same notation across countries, which led to the name 33club.
What are your design philosophies and sources of inspiration?
I love to travel, so I design based on various everyday experiences, like small moments that moved me during my travels, or when someone's outfit catches my eye and sparks an idea.
Also, our team often decides on the next message while chatting and then translates it into item designs. For example, regarding the item I'm wearing now, which is a special ring from the "Make a wish collection," we were talking about how making a wish itself is the first step towards fulfilling it.

Even if you don't make a wish, you'll encounter happy things or things you're glad you did if you just keep moving in the direction you like. But by clearly setting "This is my wish!", even if it's a small thing, it feels even happier when it comes true. While we were talking about this, a teammate told me, "I saw a shooting star when I traveled the other day, and my boyfriend who was with me immediately made a wish. But I couldn't say my wish instantly when I saw the shooting star, and seeing him who could, I thought, 'This person thinks about his wishes enough to be able to say them instantly,' and I wanted to make my own wish."
We decided that making a wish again is a very positive and wonderful theme, and that's how the name "Make a wish collection" was born. This ring is inspired by a shooting star; I wanted it to look like stars dancing in the night sky, so I designed it so that the ring itself isn't visible from the front, but rather the star appears to be floating on your finger. This is an item created from such imaginative ideas.
What challenges do you want to take on in the future?
At the end of June, we successfully held our first overseas pop-up in Taiwan. With this as a starting point, our goal is to connect with people from even more distant cultures and countries. As a team, we create things through discussion, so I believe 33club is a brand that, while staying true to its core principles, evolves depending on who joins us. We want to be able to express something unique that can only be achieved when everyone comes together, while cherishing the individuality of the people involved in the team and the club members who join us.
Please tell us about the POPUP Store that will be held at Forget-me-nots Fukuoka and Nagoya stores from July 4th.
This time, we will be gathering our very popular hexagram items, and it will also be the first time to unveil our "Jumping bunny collection," which was released in spring, in a physical store. The concept of this collection is a positive message that expresses the feeling of happiness to the fullest, perhaps even exaggerating it a little, which makes you happier and also makes others who see it happy. We created it with the image of a rabbit playfully hopping around. The necklace I'm wearing now is called the "Jumping motion necklace," and it's a jagged necklace that looks like a cartoon drawing after a rabbit has jumped. I personally think it would also go well with Forget-me-nots' clothes.
